Nurse Externship Program

Potomac Hospital is the perfect setting in which to begin your nursing career. We are looking for student nurses who want to grow their careers in an environment that’s challenging and supportive.

Potomac’s Nurse Externship Program is a short term (8-10 weeks) paid position that provides the student nurse with an exciting, guided, precepted experience in direct patient care. Throughout the externship, the student nurse will partner with an experienced nurse preceptor, practicing new skills and developing critical thinking.

Potomac’s new, four-story patient care building opened in March 2006 and provides a state-of-the art, patient and family-focused design featuring all private patient rooms. The new facility includes the Hylton Education Center, an expanded ICU and IMCU, a Medicine/Hematology/Oncology Unit with an Infusion Center, Hospice, Dialysis, Surgical/Orthopedics and a uniquely designed Pediatric Unit.

Position Requirements:
Candidates for the nurse extern position must be currently enrolled in an accredited professional nursing program with the goal of becoming a registered nurse. We require that you will be graduating in one year or less from a nursing program, having completed a minimum of two clinical rotations in a hospital setting.

As part of the application process, each student will submit a copy of his or her nursing curriculum, most recent transcript, and two letters of recommendation from instructors. Once the completed application has been received, you will be contacted for an interview by our nurse recruiter. An interview team consisting of the nurse recruiter, department directors and clinical educators will make the final selections.

This is an exciting time in your life! You are realizing your dream to become a nurse. All of us at Potomac Hospital are committed to the ongoing support and enhancement of our future nurses.

For more information or to apply, contact Regina Falco, R.N., MHSA, NE-BC, nurse recruiter, at (703) 670-1261 or gina.falco@potomachospital.com.
