New Progressive Care Unit Open for Business

Potomac Hospital's new Progressive Care Unit opened for business on November 1, 2002. This new, 4,500 square foot patient wing will serve as a model for the future replacement of Potomac's other patient rooms. It will allow us to test new modes of patient care and use this information as we build an all-new four-story medical surgical unit to replace our existing facility. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2006.

Highlights of the new Progressive Care Unit include:

Family Friendly Features:

  • 12-private bed unit
  • Sleep sofas in every room to encourage family involvement
  • Comforting décor for a 'homey' feeling
  • Light-filled solarium for patients and families
  • Large visitor's lounge with refrigerator, microwave and restroom

Clinical Features:
  • Nursing stations directly outside patient rooms with convenient window-view into rooms
  • Nurse servers (supply cabinets) for every room (hall access/room access)
  • State-of-the-art equipment
  • Large staff lounge with refrigerator and microwave
  • Dedicated dictation room for doctors
  • Omnicell supply cabinet
