Q.
At what age did you decide to pursue a medical career and why?
A.
I began thinking of becoming a doctor at elementary school age. I had strong encouragement from my family to pursue medicine. I chose gastroenterology as a specialty because I found it most challenging
Q.
What are your particular interests within your specialty?
A.
Preventive medicine, primarily educating patients regarding colon health and liver diseases. I also enjoy teaching the medical students that are on rotation through my practice.
Q.
What are your interests outside of work?
A.
I truly enjoy spending time with my wife and children. I enjoy keeping up with current events, both here in the United States and in my birthplace of Iran. I am very active with the Sentara Sentara Potomac Hospital medical community. Currently, I am President-elect of the Medical Staff, and was most recently Chair of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee.
Q.
What’s the best part about being a physician?
A.
I enjoy the challenge of my job, and helping people, of course.
