At Potomac Hospital, high tech has partnered with high touch. We believe in taking care of our patients from the inside out – spiritually as well as physically. One way we incorporate the spiritual and emotional side of healthcare is through Pastoral Care Services.
Led by hospital chaplain Carol Wille, Pastoral Care Services utilizes on-call and volunteer chaplains 24-hour-a-day to provide guidance and support to our patients and their family members, and to our staff.
Potomac’s Worship Room provides a quiet, private place for reflection, prayer or meditation. Various resources such as Bibles, Qurans, and nondenominational reading materials are available, as well as soft lighting, a soothing waterfall and an altar.
Christian, Muslim and Catholic services are also held in the Worship Room on a regular basis. Jewish services and other occasional services, such as memorial services, weddings, entrustments and staff gatherings are also held in the Worship Room.
If patients are unable to go to the Worship Room itself, our closed-circuit television channel (channel 18) provides a taped tour of the Worship Room and broadcasts services to patient rooms.
Pastoral Care Services also coordinates a 10-week assignment for students of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) to provide ministry at Sentara Potomac Hospital.
Each year on the second Sunday of October, Pastoral Care Services hosts a Remembrance Ceremony for families who have experienced an infant or fetal loss.
An annual food drive in partnership with A.C.T.S. is also coordinated during Thanksgiving.
Additionally, Potomac Hospital’s Clothing Closet, which began in 2007, continues to be a source of new clothing for our patients in need. New articles of clothing are donated by hospital employees and some churches in the area.
Pastoral Care Services at Potomac is a nondenominational service available to all patients. For more information, please call Chaplain Wille at 703-583-3003 or 540-659-1800, ext. 3003.
