Closed-Circuit Television Provides Patients 24-hour Access to Worship Room

Thanks to a generous donation from the Sentara Potomac Hospital Auxiliary, Sentara Potomac Hospital’s Worship Room can now be seen on Channel 18 (closed-circuit channel) in every patient room. A state-of-the-art camera has been installed in the Worship Room, giving our patients access to the Worship Room from their rooms at all times.

Worship services will be broadcast live and replayed periodically. When a service is not being broadcast, Channel 18 will play a pre-recorded “tour” of the Worship Room. Patients will hear music and the sound of the Worship Room waterfall as the camera scans the stained glass windows, holy books and altar, so that patients can enjoy the serene and meditative ambience of the Worship Room without having to leave their rooms.

“The Auxiliary feels that the in-house closed circuit television will provide a quiet and restful worship experience for Potomac patients and their families,” says Auxiliary President Lee Lawrence. “The ability to attend services of all faiths from the patient's room or just merely to listen to quiet music and watch a serene waterfall will provide great comfort and support to many. This donation was given with love from the Auxiliary and its members.”

Sentara Potomac Hospital’s new Worship Room features various resources such as Bibles, Qurans, and nondenominational reading materials, as well as soft lighting, a soothing ceiling-to-floor stone waterfall and an altar. It’s open to patients, visitors, staff and volunteers 24-hours, seven days a week.
