Emergency Care

Potomac Hospital's Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center is staffed by physicians board-certified in emergency medicine and nurses who have special education and credentials in this demanding field. The Emergency Care Center sees approximately 50,000 patients a year.

The Emergency Care Center has 42 exam rooms, including four trauma rooms, two triage rooms (where patients are initially assessed), and six rooms for patients with minor injuries. All of the examination rooms are enclosed by walls to maximize patient privacy. KidsCARE, an eight room children's treatment area, opened in November 2003.

Ranjini Patton, M.D., is the medical director for KidsCARE and is board-certified in emergency medicine and residency trained in pediatrics. A mother of three, Patton knows all too well how stressful a visit to the emergency room can be and is enthusiastic about being at the helm of KidsCARE.

Potomac Hospital's Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center is staffed by BestPractices, Inc., formerly Emergency Physicians of Northern Virginia, a group of doctors specially trained in emergency medicine who practice at healthcare facilities throughout Northern Virginia, including Inova Fairfax Hospital's Emergency Department and the Inova Regional Trauma Center.

"Our group specializes in emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine and emergency department practice management," states Luis Eljaiek, M.D., chairman of Potomac's Emergency Care Center. "We've become nationally recognized as one of the premier emergency physician groups in the country. We combine high-quality medical care with excellent management and customer service skills to achieve a balance that must be present to run a smooth and efficient emergency department."
