Potomac Hospital has two mobile clinics (custom Ford vans) to provide primary care to residents of Prince William County. These clinics are called the Family Health Connection I and II.
The mobile clinics are partly funded by a $215,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Education, and are sponsored by Potomac Hospital, the Prince William Health District, BestPractices, Inc. George Mason University, the Potomac Hospital Auxiliary, and the Virginia Health Care Foundation.
The mobile clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners from Potomac Hospital who provide physical examinations, vision and hearing screenings, growth assessments, blood pressure checks, immunizations, basic medical care and health information.
The scope of services is gradually increasing so that illnesses can be detected before they become serious health problems. Screening for high blood pressure and diabetes, providing breast exams and teaching women how to perform breast self-exams are some of the ways that we are able to accomplish this.
The Family Health Connection II, which arrived in July of 1999, was made possible by a generous contribution from the Potomac Hospital Auxiliary and supporters of the 1999 Potomac Hospital Foundation Gala. It provides primary healthcare to residents along the Route 1 corridor of Woodbridge and in Dale City. Additional funding for staffing was provided by a grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundation.
Families are asked to donate $20 for the service.
