Pediatrics

KidsPORT

In our new patient care building, Pediatrics has been transformed into KidsPORT, carrying through the Potomac River theme of the hospital's nursery areas and KidsCARE, the children's treatment area in the Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center. There is a "sunken ship" nurses' station, playroom with a skylight creating the effect of looking up from under water, and other imaginative features such as a castle, treasure chest, bubblers and various art with fishes and animal life. A pediatrician is on call 24 hours a day.

Equally important are the amenities provided for parents, enabling them to remain comfortably available for their children: private rooms, Internet access and TV, and day beds for a parent to stay the night. Pediatrics also offers parents the peace of mind of a locked unit. Carlene Casten, R.N., M.S., Director of Pediatrics, and her staff of registered nurses trained in pediataric nursing are excited about the fun theme and how it helps distract her young patients from the anxious feelings of being hospitalized.

Kidstuff is a regular feature in Potomac Hospital's quarterly Vim & Vigor magazine and Health Connection newsletter. If you would like to receive a free subscription to Vim & Vigor, please let us know by using the Guestbook form. Note: subscriptions are available to people who live in Potomac Hospitals service area.
